of Singapore food

Ever wondered how chendol is made? Or how murukku gets formed into strands or spirals? How did street hawkers let customers know of their presence?

In this guided play session with Rebecca, the owner of vintage shop By My Old School, we learn how vintage kitchen tools were used to make some of our favourite local food and snacks. We'll shape food-grade playdough using real kueh moulds, pastry cutters, and noodle extruders!

Lost and Found

We've heard of ang ku kueh, but what about orh ku kueh?

These dark-coloured pastries are traditionally tinted with a variety of leaves (not black sesame as is more commonly found in recent years) - each bringing a unique herbal fragrance. Of these, we will learn to use two varieties - Chinese mugwort and Ramie leaves. Orh ku kuehs made using these leaves are an increasingly rare find in Singapore.

This demo and tasting is hosted by Chef Pang Nyuk Yoon, a Chinese chef with over 30 years' experience. Chef Pang is a culinary instructor and cookbook author. She is a regular recipe contributor on Singapore's radio stations and magazines.
